5 Days of Paper making, printing, collage & creative writing
in Stirling

West Moss-side

Make your own Books and paper in this Book Making workshop.

This unique course provides an opportunity to make an illustrated hand-made book containing a piece of your own creative writing!

With the accent on recycling there will be a series of practical sessions involving paper-making, printing, paper and fabric collage, book design and construction. These will be accompanied by gentle and informal creative writing sessions.

As a result, each student will create one or more unique volumes of illustrated texts - made to hold, to treasure and to read.

A five day creative writing class which incorporates the tuition of a variety of craft skills and documentation of experiences all based around woods and words. Starting with a guided walk in nearby woods, you will be encouraged to look at the tree canopy and the woodland floor with new eyes… with the view to incorporating not just physical items collected there, photographs taken etc, but also to record the smells, the sounds and textures of the woods. The tutor, Jan Kilpatrick is an experienced teacher in paper making and book making techniques, and she will guide you through the processes of making hand-made paper using recycled materials and the items from the woods as inspiration for simple print making techniques. You will finish the craft side of things with a finished book or journal. One of Jan’s other area of expertise is in creative writing, so with some simple writing exercises, you will be encouraged to keep a journal with your own creative writing ideas. These can be private should you so wish. This is truly an activity holiday with a twist, incorporating the beautiful Stirlingshire countryside, with a craft course, with creative writing… This weekend is suitable for beginners wanting to learn basic skills or those having participated in the Paper Made from Scrap course to extend their skills further. If you have not participated in a Creative Writing workshop before, this is an opportunity to tentatively try it out on a small scale and either share your writing or not! Workshops throughout Scotland.
