This week is an exciting introduction to the limitless potential for creative expression through the making of journals out of textiles.
You will bring to the course a chosen theme eg your wedding, a holiday, your garden, the sea, along with any bits and bobs you have collected
which illustrate that theme eg tickets, maps, ribbons, photographs, newscuttings, poems, fabric scraps, shells, pressed flowers.
These will be incorporated into your journal, mostly through hand and machine sewing techniques. You will experiment with a range of ways of
presenting text and photographs, including using photocopy transfer techniques. You will also use dyes and paint and explore the possibilities
of a variety of methods of displaying artefacts, through devices such as pockets and windows and using various fastenings. Towards the end of
the week, you will edge and bind all you pages together and construct a simple but stunning book.
As you make this embroidered journal, a thousand possibilities for future projects will spring to mind, so bring a notebook: this is a highly-addictive art form!
