This course allows you to take a theme, such as a journey or a special event in your life, and interpret and record it through the process of altering an old book or box. There will be a few optional writing sessions in order to give you some written content, should you wish. You will also use a wide range of materials, such as paint, glue, wire, card, photos and memorabilia, in order to marry the contents and layout of the original book with your own words, illustrations and embellishments using a range of collage techniques. You can take advantage of those elements of the book which seem to want to be preserved and yet remove or alter the rest of the book, by way of features such as drawers, pockets, pull-out pages, secret compartments - whatever helps to present your theme in an exciting and imaginative way.
This is three-dimensional, mixed-media art in the form of a book. At times it can even become book sculpture!
Old books, various box-type artefacts and all other materials are provided. Please come with a theme in mind and a few bits and pieces that will help create an uniquely-altered book or journal.
